EF/Horse - again totally exposed as a bad music nerd, never heard of these guys but if your talking Australia you have to love The Saints???? Horse, please tell me its so!
The horse loves all this stuff. My personal video play list played end to end would take 16 days and 19 hours. So I love it all.
As for bad music, there are only two types of music. Good and F**ken good music. Love dropping in here and finding something new I haven not heard before.
Music is the soundtrack to your life. Most my memories at triggered by music, nice way to be really.
I also have some happy memories of '80s music from Australia - the Died Pretty, the Lime Spiders and especially the Someloves. I can still get a certain feeling that takes me back to that time when I hear them again - not often, I grant you, as I no longer possess any of their records, but a quick nostalgia-trip via youtube does the trick.
I hadn't thought about the Lime Spiders in forever...excellent.
I came to the Clean later but, the video for those songs at the Rumba Club...watching those girls dance...it takes me right back to when we used to get MTV on the weekend only. Fun stuff.
Ah, yes, it looks like they're having the best fun ever, and in their lovely student second-hand dresses too! Actually I didn't remember the Clean (red face) but I meant to say, they really do have an Antipodean sound, like the others I mentioned, and I can't put my finger on what it is but there's definitely something. Would you agree?
It's Flying Nun...(The Clean, Tall Dwarfs) the record label or the record label sounded like that because that's what they sound down there...but, yes...you can tell it a mile away.
Of course, it makes sense with New Zealand...given the size of it.
Really dirty psychy garage/surf muck, I think you'd probably find a few things to like in there. And I think I can safely promise that I would never, ever play a show in flip-flops.
You the Clean...while capable of tossing off near perfect pop songs...were at there best when droning on. I'd forgotten until this post and some immediate downloading.

ReplyDeleteI don't where Horse stands on all this...he's got his own thing goin' music wise but, who doesn't like The Saints?
DeleteWhen it comes to noisy guitars grouped loosely around a pop or rocknroll structure...this is the rabbit hole.

I The Clean had been from Liverpool or even Bolton or Wigan...they'd have killed it but, Chirstchurch wasn't on anybody's radar at the time.
DeleteAh, Flying Nun. Ever heard King Loser?
ReplyDeleteThat is a new one for me.
DeleteTo be honest with you...until I thought about the Clean, I hadn't thought about Flying Nun since we saw Chris Knox open up for Pavement in 1999.
Don't ever play a show in flip flops man.
